- The calculator rounds up to whole tiles.
- Any cost estimate uses only the unit price you enter. The site does not provide live, current, near-me, or store-specific material prices.
Formula
- Project area = known area, or room length x room width.
- Tile area = tile width x tile height converted to square feet.
- Tiles needed = project area divided by tile area.
- Tiles with waste = tiles needed x (1 + waste factor).
Example calculation
Example: 10 x 10 room
A 100 sq ft room using 12 in by 12 in tile needs 100 tiles before waste and 110 tiles with 10% waste.
Common mistakes
- Mixing inches and feet when entering tile dimensions.
- Skipping waste for diagonal layouts or rooms with many cuts.
- Using the calculator for tile setting materials such as mortar or grout.

Should I enter floor area or room dimensions?
Either works. If known area is entered, it is used first. Otherwise the calculator uses length times width.
Does this include grout?
No. This calculator estimates tile quantity only.
